My goal for 2019 was to wear more California-based designers. Like this Doen dress. It has been so fun researching, discovering, and meeting brands that are improving my home state’s economy. It isn’t easy or cheap to do business in California—I know that firsthand! The taxes here are killer on businesses and office rents here are insane!
I’m so in awe of the brands that figure out a way to do it and be successful and keep sustainable values.
Over the next month, I’ll introduce you all to a few I found that I just love.
I haven’t been able to go 100% local yet but I would say I’m about 80/20 for Ca.

@shopdoen is a dreamy, ethical, and California-based brand I discovered by accident. Arielle from Something Navy had a dress of theirs and I loved it but thought my shorter much curvier post-baby body would never work in their clothes. I took a chance and ordered this dress anyway. To my surprise, it totally worked for me!
I would recommend putting a slip under this Doen dress for everyday wear or to a party. When I planned on shooting it in the ruins of Barnsley House in the early morning sun, I decided that I wanted a sheer look. So I skipped it. But, I did layer the Richer Poorer bralette + femme boxer under. This would make an AH-MAZING maternity shoot dress or first dress after the baby is born. The fit is awesome and forgiving and flattering; even the arms are just the right amount of coverage!⠀⠀⠀
