One of my favorite treats is poached pears with ice cream. I found these pears at the farmers market last week and knew it was time for a fall treat! There is just something extra cozy about apple cider poached pears that I love when the weather gets cold. It rained yesterday so I figure it is a perfect time.
Ingredients for your Apple Cider Poached Pears:
3 or 4 small pears – peeled
1 bottle of Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple-Marionberry Cider
2 tbs honey
1 tsp vanilla bean paste or 1 vanilla bean
1 cinnamon stick
3 Martinelli’s Organic Mulling Spices
Directions FOR YOUR APPLE CIDER POACHED PEARS:
Peel pears. In a medium pot, combine cider, honey, vanilla (if using a bean scoop the seeds out and put in the pot with bean), break cinnamon stick in half and place in pot. Bring to a boil–stirring until honey dissolves. Place pears and mulling spice packets in pot for 2 minutes. Remove mulling spices, reduce heat to a simmer and let pears cook about 15 minutes or until soft. Remove pears and put aside to cool. Bring cider to a boil again and add 1/4 cup of sugar. Let cook until reduced to a thick sauce. Serve pears in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream ( I used Macapuno by Marrianne’s) and drizzled in sauce. I like my poached pears warm right off the stove!
