Last weekend I found a crazy good deal for Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley, CA and I jumped on it for a little alone time. Nestled right near the village center Bernardus is a real treat. I’ve visited the spa a dozen times– it is my very favorite spa in the Peninsula! But, I’ve never stayed there. So when I saw they had an IG follower special I gathered up my gift cards gathering dust and treated myself to a stay.
I stayed in a Premium Santa Lucia King room (room 50 to be exact) and it was stunning. With a deep soaking tub, private balcony overlooking the mountains, and cute little sitting area it was perfect for my time away. There was even a fireplace and dining table that was perfect for working. The floors in the bathroom were heated and the balcony faced the sunset. What more could I ask for!?
Bernardus Lodge
You may know Bernardus from their wine and if you don’t you will after your stay. When I arrived they had a delicious snack spread and beverage array including a full bottle of wine. Cheese, fresh toast points, chips, fruit, beer, wine, and sparkling water it was all complimentary!
My first night in I went for a sunset walk around the gardens while the housekeeping staff turned down my room. They left a bubble bath and chocolates! I ordered dinner before I left and it arrived just as I returned. A burger and garlic fries were perfect! Then I soaked in a bath and caught up on some reading.
I found the perfect book to enjoy on my trip. “In The Land Of Plenty” is a gorgeous novel about family, history, and how California came to be. It was so cool to look out over some of the lands in the book while reading from my balcony!
The second day I caught up on some web training I’ve neglected, did my taxes, and read some more. It was the perfect getaway to catch up, breath, and relax. I had my husband and Olivia join me the second night for dinner. My husband had never been out before either. I ordered dinner to the room and we enjoyed it on the balcony.
The food at Bernardus is delicious. My favorite was the pizza and my husband really enjoyed the scallops.
Olivia loved it so much she asked to stay the night with me. This toddler LOVES hotel life. She cried the next day when it was time to leave. We watched Disney channel and ate cookies in bed before falling asleep. It was perfect.
Sadly, I didn’t get to visit the spa on this trip but I will next time for sure. The treatment I love was still not allowed until Monterey County can fully open up. If you are looking for a great getaway I recommend Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley, CA. The drive to the beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea is pretty and fast. The staff was so sweet. The grounds are breathtaking. The room is a great size and layout plus free cheese and wine! It was the perfect weekend.
