Finding places to do a day out with a toddler isn’t always. In Monterey, we have some great kid-friendly spots but I want to start venturing a little farther out. Last week Olivia and I went on a little adventure to the Martinelli Company Store in Watsonville about an hour from our house. It was so much fun and we discovered some fun things to do in Watsonville, CA while we were there.
Fun Things to do in Watsonville, CA
One of my passions is finding local family-owned businesses to support. I was shocked to learn Martinelli’s Apple Cider was local! As a kid, we had Martenillis for special occasions and I have such fond memories of their sparkling grape juice. Learning they have a company store and tasting bar just up Highway 1 was exciting.
We went in the afternoon, and timed it so Olivia’s nap was on the car ride. Parking and driving up was super easy from Monterey–I am all about only needing 1 freeway! When we arrived, we looked around a bit and learned about the company’s history. Martinelli’s was founded in the same year as the city of Watsonville and has remained there since starting. I was also excited to learn about the company’s history of bottling CocaCola during the war! We all know how much I love Diet Coke!
Everything you need to know about Martinelli’s Company Store
After touring the history bit we popped up to the tasting bar. Olivia had a little treat trying out the unfiltered organic Honeycrisp cider. It was so yummy! We don’t give Oliva anything but water and formula so this was a real treat for her! She loved sitting at the bar and being a big girl and she really loved the cups. It was so cute. I was able to try out the Apple-Mango sparkling cider, the Apple-Marionberry, and the new Sparkling blush! I loved all of them and even brought some home courtesy of Martinellis.
We checked out all of the fun merchandise and I picked up a few postcards to put in Olivia’s playroom. Overall, it was such a fun trip. Just long enough for a nap/drive and just enough stuff to do at the store that Olivia was entertained the whole time we were there. I am so glad we learned about it and I can’t wait to go back in the fall to stock up on mulled cider!
Check out Martinelli’s online shop and their company store next time you pass by Watsonville or want a quick day trip from Santa Cruz or Monterey. And, yes they produce a Hard Cider call 1868 that is sold in Costco in Northern California!
A little tip for a yummy kid-friendly place to eat is the Watsonville Airport Restaurant! So yummy. Ask for the patio so kids have more to look at.
