I think one of the number one questions I am asked at the spa and by readers is how to treat dark under eyes. There are several reasons for dark circles– lack of sleep, genetics, not enough water, medications, food allergies and toxic build-up are just a few! Mine is related to genetics, lack of sleep, and not enough water. Here is how I reduce the appearance before a big event.
Step 1: Cleanse the eye area with a gentle cleanser. I like this one from Elemis. It is super gentle but still gets off the most stubborn of mascara and liner with a simple swipe.
Step 2: Jade Roll Massage– This is one of the most used tools in my beauty cabinet. I roll in an upward direction with the smaller side for around 3 minutes for each eye. Jade rolling will help stimulate circulation and reduce puffiness. To save time I roll over an eye cream or patch mask.
Step 3: An overnight patch mask. I prefer the VIICode O2M OXYGEN EYE MASK c/o. These can stay on for up to 8 hours making them super easy to use. I just pop them on before bed, place my sleep mask over them and go to sleep. To me they help me sleep better, the cooling effect is soothing and it forces me to not use technology before sleep. If you don’t like to sleep with anything on your face, just pop them on first thing in the morning and leave them on for 2-4 hours. Also, I keep them in the fridge for a bit of a boost to reduce puffiness.
Step 4: In the morning I remove the masks and perform another short 1-minute massage with the jade roller and Naturpathica Eye Cream. Two drops will cover both eyes and are enough to do the massage.
Overall, this protocol will help hydrate the skin, and brighten plus soften the appearance of dark circles and wrinkles. Try it out and let me know what you think!
